What is the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program?IMG_6223

The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides checks to women, infants and children through the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) and to eligible seniors for the purchase of produce at farmers’ markets. The FMNP is also intended to expand sales at farmers’ markets.

New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Webinar Training

The NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets has updated their schedule for the webinar training session for the Women Infants and Children (WIC) Vegetables and Fruits Check Program (WIC VF) and the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).  The WIC VF and FMNP trainings are now being offered as individual presentations!

WIC FV Training Requirement: Farmers that complete the WIC VF training will satisfy the annual training requirement for the WIC VF program.

FMNP Training Requirement: Farmers that complete the FMNP training will satisfy the training requirement for new farmers in the FMNP.

Cornell Cooperative Extension

Cornell Cooperative Extension links the research and extension efforts at Cornell University, the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station and the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, providing the knowledge to maximize New York State’s agricultural and natural resources.  Visit the Cornell Cooperative Extension website to identify a CCE office in your community.

Some CCE associations offer nutrition education at farmers’ markets.  If you are interested in this, please contact the CCE association in your community to see if this service is being offered.
